With wins over the Eagles, Rams, a sweep of the Falcons and the second shut out in team history (a 14-0 blanking of the Cardinals), John North's crew posted yet another 5 win season.
Despite rumors that he would be traded, Archie Manning remained the apparent starter during the season. Back-ups Bobby Scott and Larry Cipa where both given playing time in an effort to jump start a struggling offense- we where shut out twice and scored over 20 points in only one game.
Rookie Alvin Maxson was the surprise of season. An eighth round draft pick from Southern
Methodist, Maxson led the club in rushing with 714 yards on 165
carries- a 4.3 average and in receiving with 42 catches. Another
rookie, Joel Parker from Florida was right behind him with 41
grabs -- his 4 TD's were tops on the team also. Bob Newland lead
in receiving yards with but 490.
Terry Schmidt and Ernie Jackson each had 4 interceptions on the year. Tommy Myers had 3.
