The A’ints
BYOB-Bring Your Own Bag-A absolute nightmare of a season. Chuck Muncie’s trade to San Diego only worsened a non-existent running attack. Rookie Jim Rodgers led the team with 366 yards on 80 carries and second year man Wes Chandler led in receiving with 65 catches and 975 yards. At least Archie Manning had an outstanding year. 509 attempts, 309 completions, 61% completed, (an NFC leading) 3716 yards, 23 TDs.
The Saint’s only victory was a 21-20 win over the Jets in week 15 to avoid a winless season.
About the only good highlight of the season was Archie Manning setting a new team single game record for passing yards against San Francisco-377 yards.
Dick Nolan was fired in week 12 and replaced by Dick Stanfil.
**Being a long-time Saints fan, and adept at making excuses for them, I must bring up that in week 4 against Miami, the Saints were denied a win due to a bogus offensive-interference call against Ike Harris (I think) on the last series of the game. I remember I was quite upset after watching the game.**
