Indianapolis — The New Orleans Saints remained undefeated at 3-0 in the preseason with a 23-17 victory against the Indianapolis Colts. They will have to make roster cuts soon with the 75-man roster limit deadline looming Tuesday.
Here’s how some of the rookies fared:
Brandin Cooks – Cooks dressed out, but did not play after missing two days of practice with a stomach virus. Cooks said later he felt OK, but the coaches decided to hold him out.
Pierre Warren – Warren had a penalty on kickoff coverage for an illegal block in the back.
Brian Dixon – Dixon made a spectacular leaping interception in the end zone off Matt Hasselbeck. But he was also the unfortunate cornerback picked on during the Colts’ next series. Dixon appeared to give up the Colts’ final touchdown, a 22-yard pass from Chandler Harnish to Josh Lenz.
Brandon Coleman – Coleman had two catches for 12 yards.
Nic Jacobs – Jacobs had one catch for 15 yards.
Derrick Strozier – Strozier got his first attempt in the fourth quarter, carried the ball three times for four yards.
Derek Dimke – Dimke was 1-for-1 on field goals, booting a 45-yarder in the fourth quarter to put the Saints up 23-17.
Stanley Jean-Baptiste – Baptiste played on several special teams units and was the outside cornerback opposite Champ Bailey after the starters had exited. He was flagged for defensive holding in the second quarter.
Vinnie Sunseri – Sunseri tied for the team lead next to Ronald Powell with six tackles.
