The New Orleans Saints Super Bowl Upset Victory over the Colts Ranked #4
Without a doubt the biggest day in Saints Fans mind to date has got to be the Championship win over Peyton Manning and the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. I admit, after watching our beloved Saints lose in some of the most creative ways ever witnessed for over 40 years I honestly never thought I would see the New Orleans win a Lombardi Trophy.
Even after the win over Minnesota in the NFC Championship I had convinced myself that just getting to the Super Bowl was enough. Actually winning was still something I couldn’t bring myself to believe. The Indianapolis Colts had a powerful offense headed by future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning and one of the best defenses in the NFL at the time.
But even after Drew Brees and crew fell behind 10-0 they did not quit. The high powered Saints offense began to kick in and the defense came up big on some key stops. Big plays in the form of that famous on-side kick to begin the second half, Lance Moore’s 2-point conversion and of course Tracy Porter’s 70-yard pick-six of Peyton Manning that sealed the deal to give the New Orleans Saints their first ever NFL Championship.
