First Round Draft Pick: Renaldo Turnbull DE West Virginia

A letdown of a season. After 4 years of steady improvement the Saints struggled to make .500. It was a Morten Andersen field goal against the Rams with 2 seconds left that sent The New Orleans Saints to the second post season game in franchise history.
When hometown favorite Bobby Hebert sat out the season after demanding to be traded, Saints fans put there faith in John Fourcade. Fourcade had closed out the 1989 season in sensational fashion leading the Saints to 3 straight wins over some very impressive teams. Unfortunately, he struggled in the opening games of 1990 saints season and was benched as Dallas signal caller Steve Walsh was obtained for the first and third picks of the 1991 draft and the second of the 1992.
Renaldo Turnbull of West Virginia was taken with the first round pick and would put in 6 seasons of productive service with the Saints. Turnbull finished his career with 44 1/2 sacks as a Saint. Also acquired in the 1990 draft were corner back Vince Buck who played 5 seasons as a Saint.
Pat Swilling and Vaughn Johnson were each selected to their second Pro Bowls while Morten Andersen made his 5th.

I've been following the Saints since a kid in the 70s watching the likes of Archie Manning and Tommy Myers.
We may not have as grandiose a history as some NFL teams, but there are scores of memories the New Orleans Saints have given to their fans and I have done my best to record them here at New Orleans Saints History.
