Dave Whitsell 1967-1970

Dave Whitsell of the 1967 New Orleans Saints

Dave Whitsell was taken in the 1967 Expansion draft from the Bears. He had been with them since 1961. Before the Bears he had played 2 seasons with the Detroit Lions.

In 1967, he lead the NFL in interceptions with 10 and was named to the Pro Bowl…. the first Saint to enjoy this honor. His 10 grabs are still a Saints team record.

He retired following the 1969 season after 11 seasons and 46 career interceptions. In his 3 seasons with the Saints he had 19 picks and 2 scores.

I've been following the Saints since a kid in the 70s watching the likes of Archie Manning and Tommy Myers.
We may not have as grandiose a history as some NFL teams, but there are scores of memories the New Orleans Saints have given to their fans and I have done my best to record them here at New Orleans Saints History.
