When the New Orleans Saints began play in 1967 the official team colors were Black and Gold, after owner John Mecom’s oil producing industry. The helmets were to be gold with a black Fleurde-Lis emblem outined in white on each side with black-white-black center stripes and a gray facemasks.
The home jerseys were black with white-trimmed gold numerals with white and gold sleeve stripes and TV numerals on the shoulder. The white away jerseys had gold numerals with black trim and black and gold sleeve stripes and TV numerals on shoulder as well. Gold pants with black/white/black stripes. The socks were white with black and gold stripes.
A gracious Thank you to Scott Sillcox and Heritage Sports Art for the beautiful watercolor painting of the original New Orleans Saints 1967 jersey. More original framed paintings of New Orleans Saints art can be found in New Orleans Saints Art Category at the Heritage Arts website.
