A first round draft pick of 1976 from California, Chuck Muncie is considered to be one of the greatest “could have been” running backs in New Orleans Saints history.
An enormously gifted athlete Muncie spent 3 years in New Orleans rushing for 3393 yards and 28 touchdowns. In 1979 he became the first New Orleans Saint to rush for over 1000 yards. He averaged 5.0 yards a carry that year.
Here is a little highlight video of Chuck Muncie from the infamous 1979 Monday Night game against the Oakland Raiders. In that game the Saints had a 35-14 lead in the 3rd quarter when Oakland quarterback Kenny Stabler mounted a 21-point second-half comeback to beat the Saints.
It was this game that Muncie surpassed the 1000 yard mark. The video is rough and grainy, but it shows just what kind of back Chuck Muncie was. Thanks to WhoDat Zone for posting it.
