The New Orleans Saints Backfield of Reuben Mayes and Buford Jordan

Reuben Mayes was a third round pick from Washington in 1986 and was arguably the biggest surprise the New Orleans Saints had on offense. Not only was he just the third Saint running back to top 1000 yards in 1986 but he earned Rookie of the Year honors as well. Gaining 1353 yards and averaging 4.7 yards a carry for his rookie season, he had big games against Tampa Bay (172 yards), New England (157 yards) and Miami (203 yards- 3 yards shy of the team record). He scored 8 touchdowns as well.
Here he is carrying the ball in the 17-14 win against the Colts in 1986 where he picked up 106 yards. Leading the way is veteran fullback Buford Jordan.
