I Found this picture of former New Orleans Saints defender Gene Howard poking around some files on my computer and I thought it would be a nice tidbit of New Orleans Saints History to share.
Gene Howard was a 7th-round pick out of Langston in 1968. He ended up starting 10 games his rookie season with 3 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. He also played some Special Teams returning kicks and punts.

Like most Saint players though he didn’t stay long and by 1971 was playing for the Rams giving them 2 solid seasons. In 1974 he ended up in the World Football League playing with the Southern California Sun until the organization folded in 1975.

In the picture here, we think is from 1970, he is defending against Vikings Star Receiver Gene Washington.

I've been following the Saints since a kid in the 70s watching the likes of Archie Manning and Tommy Myers.
We may not have as grandiose a history as some NFL teams, but there are scores of memories the New Orleans Saints have given to their fans and I have done my best to record them here at New Orleans Saints History.

  1. Great pictures as always and Thank you for sharing them. I am friends with Wayne Colman, 1969-1976. Would you have any photos of him while he was with the Saints and Eagles, 1968-1969. I have some old Saints 35mm slides that I can also share with you. Have a great day

  2. Glad you enjoy the pictures. And I’d love to see those slides.
I don’t have many pictures of Wayne Coleman unfortunately. I do have a scan of one of his trading cards I’ve been meaning to put up for some time now. I guess now would be a good time to do that.
