Saints Quarterback Legends – Archie Manning, Bobby Hebert and Drew Brees
Some original New Orleans Saints Artwork done by local New Orleans artist Terry Marks Sr of arguably 3 of the most well-known quarterbacks in Who Dat History.
On the left we have Archie Manning – probably the most familiar Saints player of 1970s decade. After an outstanding college career at Ole Miss he was the Saints 1st-round pick of 1971 and second draft prospect taken overall. He went to 2 Pro Bowls during his 11 years with the Saint before was traded away in 1982. During that time he held just about every record in the Saint passing book.
In the center we have “The Cajun Canon” – Bobby Hebert. Hebert was a local favorite who graduated high school at South LaFourche in Cutoff, LA and played ball at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. After college he led the Michigan Panthers to a USFL Championship in 1983. Following the demise of the USFL he joined the Saints in 1985 and by 1987 was the starter for the first New Orleans Saints team to ever make the playoffs. He remained a Saint until 1992. Currently he works a sports commentator for the New Orleans based radio station WWL.
And on the right, the most prolific player in New Orleans Saints History – Drew Brees. You’d be hard-pressed to find a Saints fan who isn’t familiar with the future Hall of Famer. Brees joined the Saints in 2006 recuperating from a season ending shoulder injury while at San Diego. His accomplishments as a Saint are almost to numerous to list. At the time of this post, no player has been with the Saints more (15 seasons) or played more games (228 games). Needless to say he is the Saints undisputed All-Time Leading Quarterback in literally every franchise passing category. He was the MVP of the dramatic Super Bowl LXIV upset of Peyton Manning and the Colts. He’s made 12 Pro Bowls and 1 All-Pro Team as a Saint. At this time Drew is the NFL’s All-Time Career Leader in passing yardage and passing completions. 5 times he has surpassed 5,000 passing yards in a single season. In 2011 he threw for 5,476 yards – just 2 yards away from breaking the Single Season Passing record of 5477 yards. And he stills has the Most Consecutive Games with a Passing Touchdown – that would be 54.
So a Big Thanks to Terry for for letting me share this awesome piece of Saints Artwork. The original was autographed by all 3 men and auctioned off with the proceeds going to Bridge House/ Grace House.
